THE REINVENTION OF JAMIL
WRITTEN BY: CHAD XZAVIER HARRIS
THE INTRODUCTION:
I first met Brendan Jahi Salters in Conyers, Georgia, in 2006-2007. Brendan has always been one of my closest friends. We lived in the same neighborhood, Terraces at Fieldstone. We rode the same bus together. One day after school, on the way home, his cousin Isaiah and myself started talking on the walk home from the bus stop. We walked to his Mother's apartment and we have been friends ever since.
Brendan is from Buffalo, NY and he started making music between ages 8-11. He would have to tell you exactly what year he started writing and recording. He was always into music when I had met him. My first impression of Brendan was he was very smart and artistic. Brendan is one of the smartest friends I have. He can psycho analyze you in a few minutes and tell you why you do what you do.
The first song I heard from Brendan was one of these three singles: "Shawty in the Red", "Reality Check", and "We Ill". He started off as a solo artist and went on to form a few groups with school friends who also were interested in music.
Brendan was always the most dedicated music artist I have ever met. He had his own studio in his Mother's house. His Uncle Will kept him inspired to train as a musician. Uncle Will made beats, Wizardry was his artist name. He seemed to be very influential to Brendan. Brendan carried on the family gift of music and artistry.
Brendans Mother, Ms. Renee was one of the most compassionate and encouraging Mothers I have ever met. I used to stay at Brendans house for weeks at a time. I would be there so long they would put my name on the chore board.
Brendan influenced my artistry more so than any friend I have ever met. He made so many songs in a three year period it is amazing and astounding to me. He has a Lol Wayne like dedication to the art craft. He is extremely persistent and he went thru every obstacle life threw his way, and life threw him a few hurdles that took years to jump over. Once he jumped over the hurdles he has been on his way to superstardom ever since.
